Before we made the decision to dive in, we browsed through more than a few blogs. There are millions out there. What we saw was perfect families travelling around the world and homeschooling their children, great trips of free-spirited twentysomethings who left office cubicles for a fulfilling life as nomads, brave souls living on a beach somewhere in the world and supporting themselves blogging, early retirees selling everything they had and jumping onto the full-time travel wagon… This all may sound great, but it’s not our reality. Not ours, nor that of the people around us.
We are not perfect, our families are not perfect, our health is not perfect, and although we’ve travelled a bit, we are not chasing a bucket list. We prefer to travel as slowly as the circumstances allow us. Our travels, although exciting, inspiring and enriching our lives, are not without the odd bump in the road (or rail). They are just ours. It is personal, as are all experiences. What is an exciting discovery for us may be a mundane reality for others.
While exploring a new environment, we seek to immerse in the local community. We subconsciously try to find our table or pub where we can observe or converse over a glass of wine with others. If we only have a few days we prefer to skip the popular tourist areas and stroll among the locals, trying to soak in their culture.
We will share parts of our experiences, and our likes and dislikes, that we hope some will find useful.
Taking a train from Vidin, Bulgaria to Craiova, Romania for example, for the train enthusiasts among you. There will be many photos of course. We will try not to overwhelm you with facts that are easily retrievable elsewhere. But we’ll be happy to provide you with more information. Just ask.
